El Yaque, Margarita, Venezuela, south Caribbean
INTUITION COURSE Freeride
LOCATION REPORT Cribby's Comment "I've been going to Margarita since 1998 and running INtuition courses there since 2004, in this time we have only had three days with no wind! And in the passed two years we've had wind every single day for the two weeks! It is THE most reliable venue for wind in the end of February /early March- and therefore the only time I'd invite you there! An incredibly cosmopolitan crowd descend to the tiny village of El Yaque where everybody is a wind or kitesurfer, loving the constant winds, bath temperature water and amazing south American chilled out socials and/ or frantic nightlife. For coaching you could not ask for more- shallow water for hundreds of metres, the windsurf centres only a few paces from the water, wind all day long, the world's best freestylers in action and flat enough water to crack your carve gybes, but also rough enough to learn to jump. So cook from frozen and join me in Feb/March in Margarita for an awesome Venezuelan experience, non stop INtuition coaching and a unique opportunity to see the world champs in action, very up close and personal!!" WIND Side shore from the left, 4.7-6.7m winds, average 5.5m.
WIND STATISTICS Windy for 67 out of 70 INtuition coaching days in Margs!
SEA STATE Flat water inshore, small steep chop 300m - 600m out, small rolling swell outside. Clean water but not Caribbean turquoise.
SAILING AREA Standing depth, flat water for up to 150 metres out, then into open sea with world champion freestylers going through their routines. Small beach lined with palm trees, cocktail bars and six windsurf centres.
WETSUITS Shorts for everyone, not a slither of neoprene in sight!
RENTAL CENTRE Club Mistral. The second most windward centre with the biggest range of kit available and lots of 100% carbon masts.
HOTEL Casa Viento- family run hotel approx 250 metres from the beach.
TRANSFER TIME 10 mins from airport
BEACH FACILITIES Cocktail bars, restaurants, err, anything else you need in paradise? Sun loungers, shades etc.
WINDSURFING ALTERNATIVES Sight seeing, horse riding, beginners surfing.
OTHER STUFF We usually make a day trip to El Coche- the totally flat water paradise for speed sailing and smooth gybing, and we sometimes make a day trip to Los Roques- the Venezuelan archipelago national park which is a turquoise paradise second to none. We always head out of town a few evenings to visit local traditional South American restaurants, often with gargantuan feasts of lobsters or steaks- really special evenings! We've been known to have moustache growing competitions (when in Rome....) and even Merenge dance classes! In the passed few years I've arranged a world champion's acrobatic display- where we stand in shallow water and the world champions unleash double forward loops and all their insane moves literally over our heads! Hope you can make it and join in the fun!
FILMING Filmed from the beach and played back at the windsurf centre and/or our hotel.
